Banks and Helle1 have reported that stimulation of the isolated bovine adrenal gland, during
retrograde perfusion, releases not only catecholamines but also a soluble protein present in
the chromaffin granules; this finding has since been confirmed2, 3. We propose the term
“chromogranin (s)” as suitable for the soluble protein fractions of the chromaffin granules of
the adrenal medulla.
